Tomales Community ParkThe Tomales Community park was built in 1982 by a dedicated group of community volunteers. It included several swing sets, a climbing structure, wooden slide, and a central park gazebo. This hand built equipment served the local kids, young and old, for many years. When the new district was formed it seemed logical to include the park in the district's organization. After a state mandated inspection of the park it was determined that the play structures had to be replaced. Grants were written and accepted and the renewal process began. The operation and maintenance of the Tomales Community Park is funded through Marin County measure A, a .25 sales tax for Marin County Parks and Openspace, Agricultural land protection, and community parks such as ours. Aditional revenue comes from donations, fund raisers, grants.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of our Tomales community, visitors, and local businesses, along with local, state and federal grants and local donations, the reconstruction and improvement of the park has been accomplished. The park is available for use by large groups. For information contact admin@tomalescsd.ca.gov

A Place to Play

Dutton House Play StructureWe now have play structures for children, young and old. There are two sets of swings, a climbing dome, spring seahorses for young children, and a complex climbing structure called the "Dutton House". This climbing structure is our most ambitious project. Based on a photo of the original house that once stood on this site and built to scale the structure offers something for all ages. It was quite an effort to design and build and the results show the community's interest in honoring our town's history. Thank you David!

BarbecueThere is a large outdoor barbecue pit and picnic benches that can be rented for weddings, reunions or other events. The structure was designed in honor of Elmer Nelson who would haul in bricks and grates from the Sonoma County Fair Grounds to barbecue for our yearly school fund raiser. The park is fully handicap accessible with graded paths to all areas and handicap accessible bathrooms.

A Place to Relax

Tomales Park BenchAnd finally we wished to create a place to just relax. Tomales is the town that West Marin forgot and we like it that way. A few times a year the park comes alive with activity but most of the time the pace is pleasantly slow, the dogs friendly, and good food close at hand.
